Buck, No offense to your customer. But if they simply expect your team to go on your own to route a 12GHz design without any rules and strategy, they are smoking something really good. Designing GHz system requires not only knowledge of the PCB but also each and every single components all the way from the die, package, connector and termination schemes. Simply giving instruction on "time of flight across the pair must be equal at all points" is not good enough. Pad structures, pin escape strategies, serpentine spacing, via and return structures (to name a few) is just as important. I suggest you ask them to write down the design rule and sign their name on it before you start. At least that what I did with some of your other teams (they are great BTW).
