Benny, Here is another way to construct an equivalent circuit for PDNs. Similar to a transmission line segment approximation with RLGC equivalent circuit, a small rectangular parallel plane or transmission plane area can be approximated with so called "bedspring model" constructed with R, L, G and C elements. It follows from simple 5-point finite difference approximation of 2D Telegrapher's equations describing behavior of transmission planes (or from equivalent 2D Helmholtz equation). Equivalent circuits of the rectangular elements can be then united to simulate planes with arbitrary geometry. Note, that wave-guiding problems with field structure similar to parallel planes have been analyzed with the equivalent RLC circuit models in J.R. Whinnery, S. Ramo, A new approach to the solution of high-frequency field problems, Proc. IRE, May, 1944, p. 284-288. A simplest cell may have four identical R and L, and G and C. To account for dielectric dispersion and skin effect, additional R, L, G and C can be added using multi-pole Debye approximation. Connecting such net with circuit models of transitions and de-coupling structures allows analysis of PDNs in SPICE-type simulators (some simulators are optimized for the analysis of such nets). I have tried in Cadence and Hyperlynx but couldn't able to extract (even by removing voltage values assigned for the power nets). Do any other software like Ansoft or HFSS provide this?
