  Dear Sunil,
trasmission line parameters ( as Zo) depends on the field distribution
in the transverse plane.
Therefore any objects that can change field distribution virtually will have an
effect on Z0.

Of Course some object will have less effect than other but
if you want be absolutelysure about the value of Z0 and tthe effect of guard
traces on it
you should analyse
the configuration by using a 2D field solver

Hope this helps

Oggetto: [SI-LIST] CPW

Hello All ,

When a high freq clock trace is run on the Top Layer (Microstrip) , the
impedance
would change if ground gaurding is provided on either sides. This is because
then impedance calculations would pertain to that of a Coplanar Wave Guide.
The trace to copper clearance will set the impeadance along with the actual
trace width,Dielectric constant & etc.

I believe that for the clock traces routed on the inner Layers (Stripline) ,the
ground gaurding does not effect the impedance of the clock trace.

Pls correct me if this wrong.

Thanks in Advance

Regards
Sunil
