HI Arun,
propagation delay of a transmission line is the time taken for a electro
magnetic wave to propagation across a channel of length 'L'. This speed
varies based on the medium where it propagates. Data rate is the rate at
which the transmitter or driver send data bit in to the transmission line
per second. In time domain the width of 1 bit in seconds is 1/data rate. It
is called unit interval. For 1Gbps signal, the unit interval is 1ns. Let's
say, the propagation delay of a 6inch transmission line in FR4 is 1ns. So
if you send a bit of width 1ns in to this transmission line, then when the
driver finish sending a bit, the receiver will start to see that signal.
