Yes Ravi, I think you are asking how to estimate power ripple at CAD stage. Do following. 1. Extract board PDN S-parameter model with Ports defined wherever you have possible Decap's, Bulk Cap, Regulator. 2. Take this S-parameter file to any transient simulator. At the defined ports, connect the relevant models of Decaps, Bulk Cap and regulator. 3. Do transient simulation for Power line ripple. 4. Take FFT to understand frequency response. How to perform a transient simulation (may be using hspice) of extracted S-Parameter model of a Power Plane to ensure that the power supply injected noise is with in acceptable limits?. May be with this simulation method (just using software tool) we will able to guess if the extracted model of power plane is correct. Could some one please put a thought on this issue too. I did a simulation of a 1.0v power plane(12v turn 1.0v) and the resonance is high at 600mhz,how can I verify my simulation through test?
