[SI-LIST] More on Viruses

I received two email messages today which I read using Internet Explorer since
I am using a friend's computer away from home. The net result was a
proliferation of IExp full-screen windows which overloaded the system resources
and, in the first instance, required a HARD shutdown.
Feeling guilty at the possibility of compromising a friend's computer, I ran a
Norton Antivirus scan and the BugBear removal tool. Neither found anything
and, after deleting the offending messages, I have not seen any overt symptoms.
Any ideas / suggestions?
