Hi Arpad,

Sorry for the confusion on this. This is a mistake in the HSPICE
documentation.

Currently, the C-element does not support the charge conserving (
Q=3D'<expression>' ) syntax. =20

We are planning on releasing our first RF simulator named HSPICE RF in
September. The new HSPICE RF product will support the charge conserving
capacitor syntax.

Subject: [SI-LIST] HSPICE question

Hello HSPICE gurus,

There is an example in the HSPICE manual on p. 4-11 of the=3D20
"HSPICE Simulation and Analysis User Guide" v. 2004.03 for
charge conserving capacitors:

----------------------------------------------------------------
Charge-Conserving Capacitors
Cxxx n1 n2 . . . Q =3D3D 'equation'

EXAMPLE 1:
C1 a b Q =3D3D 'sin(V(a,b)) + V(c,d)*V(a,b)'

The above equation is equivalent to:
C1 a b C =3D3D 'cos (V(a,b)) + V(c,d)'

Note: Charge-conserving capacitors are a more-accurate solution.
----------------------------------------------------------------

I tried the first line with the "Q =3D3D ... " syntax and I get an
error:

**error** no definition for 0:q =3D20
  it was called by 0:cxxx

Does anyone know whether the "Q" is allowed in a capacitor
equation, and if so how it should be used? Or should the manual
be interpreted as "If you want to write something like the first
line, you should write it as the second line"?

Thanks,

Arpad
