Not SI related, except for SNR of the mail list after posting.

Like many SI problems it can be alleviated with proper filtering for
noise immunity.  It's easy to do once you realize the tool is there.  If
you're using Outlook, go to Tools - Rules and Alerts... - New Rule...

Use the rules tool to set it for:
Apply this rule after the message arrives 
with 'Abwesenheitsnotiz' or 'Out of Office' in the subject
move it to the Junk E-mail folder
except with <put your email domain here if you like> in the sender's
address
or except if the body contains <again, your choice>

I rapidly review the catches and just empty the folder.  The zombies
usually dissipate within a couple hours.  

Awaiting the discussion on single vs differential email schemes...
