Hi Mike and the group, In the past few years there have been some papers at the EOS/ESD Symposium on protection devices for equipment. Their website is http://www.esda.org Having said that, how the device is connected will likely dominate the type of device used. A conductor can easily have more than a hundred volt per cm drop across it as it conducts ESD current. If mounted on a board, normal layouts will render the device useless!
