[SI-LIST] Distributed RLC from S-parameter data

Hi All.
I have some S-parameters in touchstone format, and would like to convert
them to RLC's.
I know there's a slew of commercial tools out there that can do that,
but I'd like to do it on my own Using Matlab/Mathematica/C/??? with the
hope that I'll end up actually understanding the process.
I understand how to do the other direction (i.e. given an RLC netlist
create the S-parameters), but am wondering how I can derive an unknown
set of RLC values + an unknown topology from a set of S-params.
Any references to articles would be most welcome, as would be any
comments whether this is a reasonable goal or not.
