Hi,
the operating voltage is 5V and there is no chance of getting more =
than 5V sine we are using a 5V regulator. The capacitor is an ordinary =
0805 SMD 0.1uF 63V (ceramic).

What was the operating voltage of the board (5V?) and what was the voltage
rating of the capacitor? Will this system allow voltages to go higher =
than
the operating voltage such as a regulator that overshoots on initial =
turn-on
or do you have spikes coming into the supply? The one thing that will =
cause
caps to short is over voltage. Another is damage during handling or
installation. Most caps should not be run in circuits that have voltages
more than 50 to 80% of the rated voltage of the cap. Then there is just =
old
infantile failures.

Hi,
in one of my boards (5V) a decoupling capacitor showed short .How does =
=3D
this happen ? Can anyone give me an explanation .
