That's where the power of unix/Linux helps out.  The gerbv stuff is
tested nightly using scripts which compare newly rendered Gerber files
against pre-existing "golden" ones.  Differences between the
newly rendered image and the golden one are automatically flagged
using the script, so no human intervention is required.

Maybe this will give you some ideas about how to use gerbv/ImageMagick
to perform your task.
