Its exactly what it sounds to be.
The Statistical simulation calculates the impulse response of the link and then 
calculates the BER and Eye based on statistical deviations of the impulse 
response.

The Bit by Bit Simulation actually sends Bitstreams into the link and evaluates 
the response in a transient simulation.

That's why statistical is much faster, but Bit by Bit can give you more 
information as you can evaluate special worst patterns
