2D refers to a 2 dimensional field solver and 3D refers
to a 3 dimensional field solver. Both of these types of field
solvers generate RLC values.

2.5D, sometimes called pseudo-3D refers to a method of extracting
RLC parameters using either table lookup, interpolation or pattern
matching.

The initial data required for the 2.5D extractor to do its job is usually
generated by a 3D field solver.
