I never don't watch. Until a guest is considered a pack member, until it is
just the family, unless the dog is unconscience or dead, I am watching. No
matter how trustworthy, I am watching.

And that lady was nutty to start with, how could she forget you had GSD's?

I always hid when my dog was entered, knowing how nuts he went when he saw
me. But one day, I didn't realize that my handler had already brought my dog
in, and had him there on lead. I wanted to talk to the handler, so I walked
over, and was "attacked" and knocked down by my dog - glasses, handbag, me
flying all around, his body covering mine, a long sticky toung up my nose, etc.
My handler was talking to someone else and not watching my dog. One of the
other people in the group yelled out to the handler that his dog was attacking
someone. Knowing how sound my dog was (he loves people, and would never do
anything - unless "his people" was in danger), and so not really worried about
him, my handler looked down, smiled and said "Oh, that's just his owner," and
finally pulled my dog off so that I could get up.
But what might have happened if it wasn't my dog and me? What if it had been
another dog? Someone who did something the dog interpreted as an act against
his handler or me? Like the time a friend of mine just walked into the house -
knowing that I had sheps, without letting me know she was coming? Or even
knocking on the door before opening it? And left needing a new pair of slacks?
She wanted to surprise me, but she was the one who got surprised. Maybe all
of us had better remember that saying, "Eternal vigilance is the price of
owning a dog."
