I was at a show last summer when a 250 pound Mastiff went after an
English Setter...again, the owner missed the signals the Mastiff was giving.
The setters owner had the presence of mind to drop the lead, as she KNEW she
couldnt outrun the Mastiff. Thank heaven the mastiffs owner was able to get him
under control!
I find SO MANY pet people completely unconscious of the animal at the end of
the leash...or worse yet...ENCOURAGING their dog to come up and sniff noses
with yours! I am CONSTANTLY running into people at the bogs with dogs off lead.
"Oh, my dogs friendly" they say....I reply with, "Thats not the point!".... how
do I know if their dog has had its shots? How do I know that their dog isnt
having a "bad doggy day" and decides to attack my show dog?
I am a firm believer that leashes and fences make GREAT neighbors...my dogs are
NEVER off lead ANYWHERE except in their own yard. Its not MY dogs I worry
about...its everyone elses!
To the point about an aggressive dog at a show???? NO ONE has the right to
jeopardize the publics safety by bringing a knowingly aggressive dog to a dog
show where he/she might be face height with small children.
