Let me preface what I am going to say with I only show in conformation. =

Let's face facts, this has become more of a beauty pagent than a show c=

for our working stock. And because of that many who show in conformation
are taking their pagent winners into the field, if you will, to prove the=

can do the job the were supposed to do.=0D

But when they go into the conformation ring, it is no longer a quick ba=
th
and brush 2 days before, many dogs are done up more than my mother-in-law
just to strut around the ring for a few minutes. I know I spend more tim=
e
grooming my dogs than they spend in the ring for my efforts.=0D

I find the conformation ring too much of a 'show' and not a dog show. =
I
see it in all the breeds too. Newfoundland's are supposed to have a very
rough almost unwashed look to them. But the one who took Westminster was
trimmed to prefection. And I have heard Newfy's breeders and handlers bi=
tch
about it too.=0D

I know that some even dress up the color of the dogs with products that
can be easily purchased at any all breed show, but are strictly prohibite=
d
by akc rules.=0D

Now I buy into it, so I am not trying to tell anyone else not to do it,
but I also will call a sheep a sheep and not a goat. We have a pagent th=
ese
days, and until someone can win with a clean but undressed dog, it will b=
e
thus.=0D

That is why handlers often charge for grooming, like it was a freaking
Poodle.=0D
