Julie, This dog is the German Seiger, I forget exactly what year, but it's way back in the early 80's and was made before the Germans bred what became known as the "carp back". This was the era either preceding Walter Martin or before Walter became so very influential in developing another style of German dog. Some of the Dogs and Bitches in German of that era could well have been shown in this country and won handily. An educational tape was produced by Germany which includes this Seiger gaiting as an example of powerful, correct gait. Some critics faulted this dog for "over reach" in the rear drive & some "kick up:". This tape shows this same dog with the skeleton in motion, an extraordinary film The fore assembly on this dog is just outstanding. One can see that the front foot is so close and low to the ground that the grass is touched as the front leg follows through. There is absolutely NO LIFTING WHATSOEVER. And one can see that the front leg is straight out in a line from the shoulder so there is lots of daylight between the elbow & the body. Too many of the pictures we see show a front leg with the elbow "tucked" in next to the body and the leg thrown up and out off the ground. The tape is all in German and I was fortunate to have an all breed friend from Germany translate it for me. I have used this tape in education programs. Pat Trotter also uses this tape in her well known educational program on structure and movement. The tape has the skeleton there with an arrow pointing to different parts of the dog's body with an explanation of why and how those parts contribute to the gait of the dog. It is a treasure. At one educational meeting there was a complaint because a German dog was used Nancy Harper ----- Original Message ----- From: <EJDegen@xxxxxxx> To: <showgsd-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, November 15, 2007 8:34 AM Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] who is this dog?
