I'm amazed that to be told that if I can't afford "regular" health testing of
my dogs that I shouldn't "now" own dogs. Just for curiosity sake, why does reg.
testing qualiy you as a super owner and now you can breed dogs? My dogs rarely
see a vet, and I do mean rarely. They get rabies shots...and I do the OFA's
prelims and certs. CERF and that about defines my times in the vets office.
When I breed to a outside stud I do the required testing for the stud dog
owner. In over 34 years of breeding I've had to do 5 "c" sections. I've had two
bloat (both had cancer). I've had one bitch who got sick that had every test in
the book and then some only to find "nothing" was abnormal. At the time my
then husband had Weimaraners we did our own tails and declaws. No one ever got
sick, or deformed by botched procedures. I know a Bouvier breeder who does her
own ears, and let me tell you....the vets could learn from her. They are the
nicest ears I have seen, and done at 6 weeks and all healed up before they go
home at 8 weeks, oh, and they stand straight up and never need racks, etc.
I guess I qualify as a back yard breeder because, gee whiz some of my dogs are
in the back yard! AND sometimes I get up to 20 dogs! AND I don't have fancy ac
conditioned kennels, for that matter I don't use the ac in my house
either....because I can't afford it!
Yep, I'm a bad breeder because my dogs actually live with me. But unfortunately
some do have to go out in the backyard now and again.
Oh, and I think before they worry about declaws and tails, well maybe they
ought to make a law for the poor little boys that get circumsised, without any
meds! Much, much more painful. Anja
