I think the problem, and the repeat of this topic every couple of years, is that 'da List is too tolerant. This is a AKC/CKC CONFORMATION show list. However, many of us have other interests, including various dog sports, in addition to showing our dogs. We frequently talk about health, FOOD choices, structure, performance in ALL venures at one point or another, import breedings, show and performance brags, white dogs, etc. Because many of us are friends, we brag on kids, talk about what happened outside the ring at shows, spread rumors - some funny/some not, and all the other topics that friends chat about over coffee. When new people join they get the impression that this is a general GSD list - not specific for show folks. Sometimes it doesn't even appear to be a GSD list. And I'm just as guilty as the rest so I'm NOT throwing rocks. Just that I understand why the topic of "prove it", like history, is destined to repeat itself. While the rules are posted on the website, I for one never went to the site before joining 'da List several years ago. I was invited by a friend. I think many of the other new folks joined the same way - word of mouth (or e-mail LOL) so they really don't know what they've joined and what folks make up the 'chat group.' [Thats got to be obvious when newbees start asking folks like Barbara Amidon what SHEs done in the breed] who the group. They just don't know the level of experience here and that this is not "Billy Bob's GSD chat group." I'm NOT advocating that we should stop many of the off topic posts since we ARE all supposed to be friends and frinds chat. However, maybe periodically Marge Golant's post should automatically go to da "list. That might solve the problem once and for all! JMO.
