Many years ago there was an article in the Review by Helen Miller-Fisher just after she judged the National. She stated that there weren't many judges that could follow a clear enough procedure for a show the size and prestige of our national. She felt that many judges would not be able to handle the pressure of such a show (including pressure from handlers). Anyway, you all get the gist. It is maybe easier today with entries being smaller than in the past so a judge may not have to be as fast but I think that they need to be clear in his/her ring procedure. Maybe Helen can chime in and add her experience! We are certainly working from an ever shrinking pool of qualified judges. I think that one of the club's initiatives should be development of judges (I am sure we currently have a program of some sorr, just not sure how active it is).
