The problem with turning them loose, as I see it, is that this puts the
pressure on the dog to actually move properly, with no fixed way of making them
do it. They might decide this is a good time to play Ferdinan and just sit in
the middle of the ring and sniff. And they might also decide to play bronco,
and gallup and and fun around, not to mention the need to revamp many rings
from rope to something that would keep the dogs inside the ring.
I think the answer is for judges to take back the ring and insist that
handlers slow down. Then even some of us broken folk could consider showing
again. I would. Not my own dogs, I am too much the alpha and my dogs look
back to see I am happy with them, thus throwing off their gait, but I would
show other dogs.
The dogs do need some control, that is the handler and lead, but they also
need to slow down, agreed!!!!!

correct dogs from the dogs that are strung up to give the impression of
movement.
