and we wonder why only the die-hards are left in this "sport"?
And Peggy - that dog who was aggressive, was he used for breeding because of
his
winning record? Real breed improvement.

You'd be surprised at what goes on...some of it in view of lots of
people...and nobody ever reports any of it.
I've known (but not seen it for myself) handlers to get dogs onto a
"sugar high" by loading them with sugar before they show...this morning I
heard about a dog shown at the Garden this year who was given fluids by subq
shots just before going to his breed judging...he was looking "skinny," so
the handler shot him up a few times to plump him up. I have to admit,
that's the first time I ever heard of that, but if THAT handler knows about
it, it must not be uncommon.
One top winning dog in the past few years was drugged most of the time
because he was so aggressive, not only to dogs but to his handler and other
humans... "everyone" knew the dog was doped out of his mind, and it never
stopped him.
I had him once, and walked him out of the breed because he didn't know
where he was....AKC field reps landed on me hard for "dumping" him...but
there's no way...not when he didn't know where he was, or recognize his
name......when I got home, I had a phone call from a handler friend whose
first words were "I guess he had too many pills, huh?" I didn't have to ask
him what he was talking about.
Many years ago a top handler. now a judge. gave a lame dog a shot
right at the in gate of the breed ring at Westminster.........in full view
of the whole world, so to speak. Nobody ever said a word.
Drugging is common...not good, but common. They drug them to get 'em
up, and they drug them to make them controllable..........and some owners
are as bad as some handlers.
