Tony..I would refrain from placing limitations on numbers of litters per
year.How would we enforce it?.Would we count co-bred litters? Only litters
whelped on your property? what if you have several bitches that have very
small litters..or are you going to go by both the number of litters and
puppies within the litter? The biggest reason I never signed the Breeders
Code was because it wanted to dictate the number of times you should breed
a bitch unless she went to the vet..that you had to give a repeat
breedings..etc. We don't have that many litters per year..so I am not
saying this because it would in someway affect us On the other hand, over
the years there have been many prominent breeders who have had quite a few
litters per year.It may not be what I would do, but I do know that some(
not all) did have appropriate help to properly care for the litters..
Knowledgeable conscientious breeders should have the right to make
judicious breeding choices, whether it be about numbers of litters, x-rays,
repeat breedings, numbers of times bitches should be bred, what age they
should be bred. All information should be factored in on a case by case
basis as for every "rule" there is an exception.. There has to be a better
way to define what constitutes a indiscriminate breeder from a
conscientious one than trying to define it by "numbers" Christine
