And, in the interests of being fair, I did speak to two different
Board Members right after the initial Hunte vote. (and let us please
not confuse that one
with the second one...which was as much a fiasco as the first)............
The attorneys on the Board, both Margy AND Kris, did not vote to
admit Hunte...and (as I was told, anyway) did advise the other Directors
that AND THAT IS CORRECT
nobody could "sue the pants off us" if Hunte didn't get in.
Unfortunately, some of the Board didn't listen...they were swayed by
influences they believed to be correct...........and nothing could
dissuade them. Fear is a mighty emotion...when you think you are going
to lose "everything," you pretty much do as you're told...
I can say that I believe the fears should have been disspelled when
the attorneys said "it can't happen." Not that attorneys can't be
wrong, because they
often are..........(tah dah!!!).......but in this case, misinformation
on one hand and NO information on the other, plus undue influence from
one person in particular,
PEGGY WHAT WAS THE "UNDUE INFLUENCE" AND WHO WAS THE PERSON
I WAS PRESENT AND NO ONE SAID ANYTHING CONDONING HUNTE TO THE GROUP IN THE
MEEING.
and another person backing that one up,
I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO KNOW WHO THAT WAS ALSO SO THAT I AM SURE I DO NOT
VOTE FOR THEM,
convinced the remaining
Directors to vote Yes. Is this an excuse? No....if you are going to
be on the Board or hold
office in an organization, you should know your legal rights and your
standing...in this case, even tho Mr. Hunte may have WANTED to sue, his
attorneys would
most likely have told him it would have been a big waste of time. I say
that because with his money he must have pretty good legal advice, no?
And while they'd
be happy to take his money, I'm sure they would have done their best to
keep him from making a fool of himself.
How many times does it have to be said...this club can refuse
membership to any applicant..........in spite of what pumped up people
who think they are
infallible may have said...we had the right to tell Hunte to go fry
ice...and some people were afraid to do it.
I was told people were crying, that others were "buttonholing"
certain people and having little mini-meetings...and the plain fact is
that the entire matter
was not handled according to Hoyle, or as any other application would
have been handled This violation of our own P&P led to more and more
violations and a growing distrust of any Board or Executive Committee
action. The Hunte application for membership was NOT the first time
the Board or
Exec. Committee mishandled an issue...but it was the first to become
widely known...and because everything
has been conducted in secret since
then,
a lot of people are very unhappy..........nobody trusts anybody else,
people lie, people confuse the issues, and it's all a great big mess.
Accusations fly
and some are deserved, some are not...that's par for the course.
In the end, Kris and Margy, the two attorneys, both voted against
letting Andrew Hunte into the club. That should have been a big clue to
the ones who
voted Yes............and it wasn't. Too late now..........and paying
him to go away a couple of months later was an abominable act ... any
attorney
who advocated that should have been sent away on his or her ear............
Too many free-wheeling moves, too much bad advice, too much of all
wrong stuff.............we're supposed to ask "What have you done for me
lately?"
Nobody dares asks that anymore...we might find out we've been had and
not kissed in the process. I used a polite word there so as not to
offend...
but if you've read this far, you know what's been done to
us.........thru ignorance, pride, arrogance and greed...but mostly thru
ignorance. Luckily, not ALL
of the seven deadly sins are on that list........but two are enough for
me.
