Years ago a friend asked if I would handle the disposition of her dogs if she were to pre-decease me. With my consent, she bought a small term life insurance policy with me as the beneficiary with the understanding that should she pass, her old or sick dogs would be euthanized and the others would be placed or grow old w/ me as I saw fit. I encourage the heck out of puppy buyers to let the dogs be boarded, go to puppy day care, stay overnight out of the house etc., while young so that IF they ever have to have their lives up-rooted, they are able to stand on their own four feet without pining away or making themselves sick. There's nothing sadder than a middle age or older dog that can't stay somewhere without trauma.
