For every performance title (past the first level titles, for which the
GSDCA sends a certificate), I've received a pin. The third level titles (like
a
UD) receive a gold tone pin, just like the CH pins. My dogs' names are
published in the Review for both the performance titles and the CHs (just like
every other members' dogs). Honor parades hosted by regional clubs and the
Parade Of Greats at the national recognize performance winners too (just look
at
an entry if you don't believe me). Regional clubs recognize ALL titles at
their award meetings, not just conformation awards.
I think we (parent and regional club members) do a pretty good job at
casting a wide net.
AND if you think this topic is only a GSD topic, spend some time w/ the
sporting and working dog people. There is always a tug of war between how a
dog
looks winning in the breed ring v. how they are "supposed" to look and
function while working. There's a reason for the tug of war, though. I CAN
take a
dog that is "not exactly" within the breed standard and win all sorts of
performance awards. I CAN'T take the same dog to the breed ring, though, and
put a CH in front of its name.
