when i was pulling from the shelters in southern illinois, more often than 
not, when i went to pull a GSD, i couldn't even figure out which dog it was 
supposed to be.  also, in many of the midwestern shelters, there was a higher 
number of purebred dogs because of all the throwaway labs who didn't work out 
for 
hunting.  i think that, nationally, the # of purebreds in shelters is closer 
to stormy's estimate.
