Laura I am an active member of my State Federation and I pick and choose
what battles I'll fight. For instance, Laurie P. can attest that she had the
PDF file for a specific statute she needed re home owners insurance within
minutes of asking for it. That, to me, is an argument worth having. On the
other hand, a law that keeps track of rabies and licensing doesn't bother me.
Limits on numbers of dogs kept don't bother me. I can understand size of
property, zoning etc. impacting the number of animals of any sort that a
property
can support. If everyone had common sense and was responsible, maybe you
wouldn't need such laws, who knows? Then again, I'm sure everyone has
different definitions for "responsible", so it's no wonder "responsibility" is
defined in statutes.

What worries me, actually what infuriates me is the very vocal "if it's
legislation it must be bad", or "so what if I have more dogs than my
county/municipality/borough says I can YOU can't tell ME what to do" mentality
or the
latest irresponsible example the other day, the "no more rabies shots"
comment/rationalization, because you see, it's these very vocal members of the
fancy
that IMO give all of us a black eye.

How can you expect legislators of those in community government to take any
of us seriously (when there is a battle worth fighting and winning) when faced
with such backwards thinking? Don't you see where someone spouting such
nonsense damages ALL OF OUR credibility?

I would prefer that people who say they represent the interests of our sport
come to the table w/ "clean hands". (Evan can explain "clean hands" <G>.)

(BTW, maybe you have a good relationship w/ your neighbors, but if you're
over your dog limits you can bet yours and your neighbors mortgage companies
and
PMI companies where applicable wouldn't be too happy re properties THEY
have first liens on.)
