It is Von Willebrand.... as for breeding carriers - it depends on the breed.
In a breed like Dobermans where you have a DNA test for it I wouldn't
necessarily rule out a carrier, but would breed around that. But it is so
prevalent in the breed that you can't just not breed ALL carriers or you would
have
no breed left. You have to breed around the carriers, (ie carrier to non
carrier) and DNA test the offspring. From there you take the clear offspring
and
again breed to non carrier.
My question is... didn't this friend's dog have it's ears cropped and tail
docked? And no bleeding problem showed at that time? I think I'd want to
re-test. A dog with ACTIVE Vwd is going to bleed like crazy for a major
surgery
like ear cropping.
