The really good judge looks at an animal in terms of it's virtues. It's = about the "big picture" - you need the judge the entire package - not just = develop an laundry list of an animals fault's. All animals have faults - = a qualtiy animal has far more virtues than faults. =20 I took one of my sheltie bitches to a top sheltie breeder judge for = evaluation and he evaluated her in terms of her virtues while acknowledgiin= g areas that needed improvement. That's a real dog person in my opinion. As a breeder, I never throw the baby out with the bathwater. If I have = an animal that is outstanding in many ways but has something that needs = improvement, I'm not going to discard that animal from my breeding = program. I will, however, choose breeding partners for that animal that = will help me breed away from the "fault".
