Thank you to all who responded.  I called the family this afternoon  and 
their gal is doing better.  We had a snow storm, they shoveled an area  of 
grass 
for her, and if the husband carries her outside she relieves  herself.  Her 
urine appears normal.  (BIG HORRAY!!!!!) She is drinking  willingly and wants 
to 
eat.  She is still having difficulty w/ a front paw;  almost as if she can't 
feel it, and so she's unsteady on her feet.  She is  alert though and wants 
to 
be with her family; a REAL improvement from  yesterday.   
  
I told them I had e-mailed an Internet list of GSD enthusiast and the   
consensus of opinion, taking into consideration the swelling on her face and   
paralysis like symptoms of her front paw was a spider bite.  When I said 
 that it 
was like a light bulb went off; they have an in-ground pool,  covered now and 
in 
a different fenced are of the yard (where the dog doesn't  have access this 
time of year).  When the pool cover is removed late  spring, they apparently 
find quite a large number of BIG wooly spiders; so we at  least know that 
there 
are spiders in the area. 
  
Their regular vet is in tomorrow, the blood work should be back and they   
have the option of leaving the dog at the vet's rather than leave her home 
 alone 
while the family is at work/school.  I still want them to  mention  the 
blood 
tinged-urine to the (regular, not ER) vet.  I asked  them if they'd keep me 
in the loop.  Thanks again:)
