Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] to the newest members of the list
I would ask the newest member of this list the following, and please post your
answers so we can all read them.......
Why did you join this list......
Have you joined a local regional club?
Have you joined the GSDCA?
If yes to either, why? And if no to either, again why?
Do you new listers have a mentor? Do you like your mentor? Are they
teaching you anything and if so what?
Let's hear from our newest list members about how they feel about the dogs,
the clubs and the list. Many of them may not even know what an ROM is or why
they would want one for their dogs. But they may know why they have or have
not joined a club.
We who have been showing and or breeding for 10 or more years should sit back
and let others talk for a change. Let's hear from people who have not said
much.
Tell us what you want from a national club, a local club, and from this list.
We are so busy arguing about what you need that you do not have a way to get
a word in edgewise, well I am giving all you "newbies" a chance to speak your
mind, so please!!!! say something!!!!

I joined this list when I found it to learn more about the show ring and how
it works. I do have a mentor, but after years in the American arena, she went
on to the German lines and their venues. She still has a few American lines,
but is not really doing much with them right now. She has taught me some, and
alot of what she said is true. Right now I feel this whole arena is more
political than anything. I might be cutting my nose off here....but it seems as
if you don't have a top handler to spend thousands of dollars on so your dog
doesn't even get looked at. Everyone is bickering over something and I delete
more than I read anymore. If your a newbie and a member of the GSDCA you can
and should be heard...even tho you know next to nothing...but if that same
newbie wasn't a member of the PC, then they should not be heard.
I do not belong to a local club, still trying to find a good one close enough
that has available what I'm interested in. II do belong the PC for 2 years now
and soon to belong the GSDCA-WDA also. I feel it is important to support the
clubs....without them we wouldn't have anything. Most pet owners don't really
feel they have a need for joining such a club when they have only "family
companions", I think if we educate them on why the PC is so important (genetic,
health research for our breed, etc, etc...) they may feel more inclined to join
also. Even if they do not intend to do anything except have a family companion.
Again I may be cutting off my own my own head....but I do not understand the
ROM for the bitches, especially since most of the offspring listed as their
qualifing progeny are all from the same sire. I personally think it should have
to be from 3 or more Sires. I know like I said.... cut my head off now. I
don't mean to offend ANYONE and these are only my views. I know I am nobody and
now that I've pissed off all you longtime breeders I probably will never be
anybody, but this is honestly what I see at this point in time.
