My brother, Gary Sater has a cabin up in Phillips, WI. It's quite remote up in that area. Tons of ticks up there and you name it. Last year when Gary was biking on a remote black top road he thought he saw something coming across his path when he was coming down a hill at a pretty good speed. When he got a bit closer, out popped a huge cougar & made its stand right in the middle of the road. Gary stopped his bike only some feet from the large cat skidding his bike all of the way. The cat & Gary starred at each other which seemed like eternity. Gary said he doesn't remember ever seeing the cat blink its eyes. He said they were haunting. Remembering a scary story of another man that encountered a big cat while biking protected his attack by placing the bike between him & his intruder. It saved his life. So slowly, Gary placed his bike in front of his body just in case the cat attacked him. Gary said he remembers the cats tail going back & forth slowly like anticipating its next move. Gary never said a word. He just starred the cat in the eyes & never moved except for placing his bike in front of himself. He was hoping a vehicle would've come at that time but nothing. Then finally, the cat turned face & slowly approached the other side of the road & disappeared in the tall grass. Gary said, "When I got back on my bike I had to keep looking back constantly for some miles down the road. The hair stood up on my back for a few days after." Gary said, he would never forget the most beautiful haunting eyes on that cat. Caught my breath after seeing my first mountain lion tracks....a mile from our house in the "park " where I run... The black tailed Jackrabbits are the size of small deer...no not kidding!! Bobcats, yep, deer yep...taranalas, tarantual hawks, eweeee...t and just for fun today I ran across one of the local denizens.....literally ran across... me and my trusty gal "Siren" (Ch. EMale to Caliente) heard LOUD hhhhhHHHHHHHHAAAAIIIIIISSSSSSSSSSS!SSSSSSS!!!!! Stopped Siren and me dead in our tracks....lo and behold 18 inches from the side of the trail , we were running and directly next to us....was a four foot Red Diamondback rattler.... then the rattling started....boy was he MAD!!! All coiled up, and not moving. I chucked a couple of rocks at him to get him away from the trail... Siren was on the OPPOSITE side of the trail pulling on the lead and looking at me as if to yell "ARE YOU CRAZY, YOU ARE THROWING ROCKS AT IT AND IT WANTS TO KILL US?????" I made record time on the remaining 3 miles .....with goosebumps the whole way, LOL Kathy, who believes in guardian angels, lol. ============================================================================ POST is Copyrighted 2010.
