I can run, not a problem. But I've been told that my dog won't move for me, which is true. He's a totally differnt dog when I'm on the other side of the ring. I'm about to move again, so I can't afford a handler right now, so that's then end of our show season. We're not going to anymore specialtie this year. He's also very angled, so I don't think he'll do well in all bred shows. But most of the time I go to all breed shows because they are owner handled, and I feel I have a better chance of winning, angled dog or not. I will win eventually. My concern is that I haven't been to an all breed yet (except Canfield and the Crown Classics) that draw enough dogs for majors. At least not in Ohio. Of course, at many all breed shows, a lot of the owners COULD...but they have this firm belief that they can't win without a handler...and under an awful lot of judges, specialist and otherwise, that is true! And THAT part is true for a lot of breeds, too. I sure couldn't show my own Shepherd...I'd drop dead. The last time I tried to show a big moving dog of my own it was a Pointer...and I thought I was going to die after the first time around the ring!!! It's fine to use handlers...I am glad they are there... but judges have to learn to look at the dogs instead of the top end of the lead......some judges, anyway. Most of our good handlers know whether they deserve to win or if there's a better dog there...I think a lot of the problems with the specialties is that judges feel safe putting up a dog someone else has put up, or one they've heard about, OR -- they are afraid that if they don't put up the handler of the day, they won't get an entry next time. Guess what? Everybody ELSE will enter........ Also, a lot of exhibitors won't give a judge a second chance when they get beat by poor quality...just because of who's showing the poor quality animal.
