Great article on bicycles...history, origination, etc. here:

Scotland isn't mentioned at all. According to the article, the first
bicycle was made in Germany, the second in France, and the first one
that even really resembled our current bicycles was built in Japan
(naturally).............and by 1928 they were building bikes in England
and and America, ah ..........just read the article...it's interesting!
