Try living in Los Angeles.? The signs all indicate Cities.? On Coast states, direction means next to nothing.? There is the Santa Monica Freeway, San Diego, Ventura and Antelope Valley freeways.? For an out of town person who has no clue where these Cities are located, it can be very confusing.? Not to mention the pronunciation of the street names.? You ask a local?where? "Sep-ol-veeda" (Sepulveda)?is located, they just laugh.? And, the San Diego Freeway doesn't even go to San Diego.? It ends about 20 miles before you even get to San Diego County.? The Ventura freeway?is really fun.? You can take it north, south, east or west,?depending on where you actually want to go.? Ventura is NW of L.A.? But,?the freeway?still goes east from?the north point until it turns into another freeway.? Unless one knows where Ventura is,?it is very confusing.? I swear these map planners all got together during a drunken poker game?to plan the routes.? Then, they added the sign guys to their poss e.? I think it is all just a conspiracy to mess with us, no matter where you live. LOL!?? I about believe this! We were in the HOV lane going North toward TN and wound up on I-85 toward Greenville, SC. It took forever to get turned around and back going the other way. I learned that the HOV lane going into I-75 takes a left exit just when you least expect it. My pet peeve though is the HOV lane that is HOV all 24/7. So in the middle of the day, you have one empty lane and all the others are clogged. Even other major cities open that lane up in the off rush hours to all traffic. Not Atlanta! And invariably, I'll be in the left lane when I need to make a right exit. I learned the hard way that the HOV lane does not have an exit for I-85 West - or is it south?. Or was it I-20? Whatever it was, we spent an hour wandering around the streets trying to find our way back to I-75. I guess we must have been on Peachtree! Anne, Two hours from Atlanta and that's close enough!
