When the Raiders were great ( millions of years ago) John Madden had a
sayinghe'd tell the team! and I must say I sort of live my life this way....
John said " don't worry about the horse being blind, just load the wagon and
go!" Don't worry about who picks the speakers for the seminar, don't worry
about 3000 members agreeing, don't worry about anything! Let's just load
the wagon and go! The football games start in 30 minutes so perhaps I'll

For the past five or six years, we have struggled to survive. We made a
number of financial mistakes in the past, and our board had taken all their
efforts and energy to make sure the club survives.
It would be great to offer services, seminars, and educational materials.
Itis true we have great talent in this club, but who picks who is the best
topresent a seminar? Who picks the person who would choose? How would
3,000members agree, and how would it be paid for?
Some day, in the future, when the club is financially sound, we should
address these questions.
When I left the board, we had in reserves one years expenses, about
$800,000.00. We need to work to get back to that if we ever can. It is a
monumental task, but our elected board is working in that direction. Our
accountants at that time, told us we needed one years expenses in reserve to
be financially sound.
When we pick the next president, let's find someone like Frank, who has
always put the well being of the club first and foremost. While we may not
agree with everything our board has done, or even everything Frank has lead
us to, we have to admit that our club is here, with the great losses we
suffered in the past, we are again solvent, and the years ahead will bring
the chance to return to the past of strength and solvency.
At the same time, it is Christmas time. We all should consider how to help
each other, and honor our friends, our families and our sport.
Have a great holiday season, and enjoy and rejoice that we still have each
other.

this past March I attended a " Theriogenology Seminar" at UC Davis
Veterinary teaching college. The sessions started at 9 and ended around 4.
They had an early continental breakfast, and a very nice cold lunch with
sandwiches salads and sodas and water. The cost 65 bucks ! I mentioned this
seminar on this list prior to attending but I don't remember seeing any GSD
people. I am praying that UC Davis has this seminar again in 2015!
Incredibleall the information these breeding Vets shared. If you live
anywhere in the Western US and UC Davis has this program again you need to
attend ( if you are still breeding dogs). My question is Why can't WE (
GDSCA) put on something like this? With all the talented knowledgable people
in this breed is there a better, more fun way to share this knowledge? We (
GDSCA) need to step out of the norm! offer different opportunities to the
membership and the general dog public! The topics are endless!... It appears
we do the same thing (basically nothing) year after year! we fight about
breed changes, we fight about national locations, we cry about shrinking
entries and club members but we don't do much! We need to get out of our
comfort zone and try something fun and different! ...... How about those
