If all I wanted a furry buddy/foot warmer, I could go to the local SPCA
and rescue a furry buddy. Hell, I could even get a cat. (No hate mail from
cat owners plzzzzzzzz~)
I'm hardly a performance zealot, but that fault has been mine for lack of
time. Work, family...life...gets in the way. But I have a few that need to
be dual titled this year so I will MAKE time. And who will benefit from
that the most? Me. Because once again I will be reminded of what drew me
to this breed in the first place; a mind in a glorious wrapper.
There's so much more to these dogs than going around in circles. If you
(generic you) have never experienced a good dog working for you just for the
joy of working...geeze, my sympathies for anyone that hasn't felt it, but
I'm not up to the task of putting it into words. It is humbling and awe
inspiring all at the same time.
And when all of the BS gets in the way, I will go lay a track or work a
young dog on sheep just to see the instinct kick in (while admiring the iron
back and terrific shoulder), and likely go sheep surfing because I am
getting lost in admiring the dog and find myself totally in the wrong place...

Ouch! Performance freaks??? I had just mentioned the increase =
popularity of performance venues as an example of why the entries in =
conformation are dwindling because it's costly and handler dominated. =
It's true in performance most people ARE DOING things with their dogs. =
I started in performance 28 years ago and then got bit by the =
conformation bug and ended up there. I was not casting aspersions on =
conformation; I love it along with performance events. I believe in =
doing WHATEVER you want with your dogs, so long as they and you are =
happy doing it, be it a champion with a whole list of credits behind its =
name or a couch potato. It doesn't matter, what IS IMPORTANT/SAD, which =
is suggested by your comments, is the division between conformation and =
performance. People are entitled to make a choice of what venue if any =
that they pursue with their dogs, we shouldn't be critical of those =
choices because they don't match ours. =20
