From the AKC judges Conformation Dog Show Judges book. An attack is defined as a bite or an attempt to bite anyone, including its own handler. DISQUALIFICATIONS for ATTACKING are very SERIOUS and different from other disqualifications. The failure to appropriately address a potentially dangerous dog compounds the vulnerability of future judges. I think this proves true in this case since the dog was PUT OUT of the ring the next day. Lucky the dog was not injured by this dog. If the show Chairman puts what happen in his report and he should I am certain he will hear from AKC. We had a dog bite a handler at one of our shows. The handler refused to file charges. As show Chairman I did not hold a bench show since he refused to file charges. I got a call from AKC the Tuesday after our show and was told I had 5 days to hold a bench show committee and fax results to them. We did by conference call and suspended the owner of the biting dog. AKC did not fine us because we acted immediately after they contacted me. I can tell you from now on any incidents we have at our shows we will hold a bench and take proper action. I don't care if involves a judge or an exhibitor they will be benched. Lee Brown Too far from the womb and too close to the tomb to care about what anyone thinks of me. A dog doesn't have to actually bite the judge or the handler or any other human, either...just attempt it. The dog MUST be DQ'd. Those are AKC rules. While there are occasions when someone may think a dog tried to bite and the judge thinks otherwise, in this case, from what I am hearing from all kinds of people all over the country, there was no doubt here...the dog tried to bite, and did so more than once with the same judge. I wasn't there...just sayin'...this is what I'm hearing, and I've been hearing it since it happened. Apparently there was no doubt...and the dog should have been DQ'd...AND put out of the ring.......... It had also better be in the report the show secretary sends to AKC, because I'm sure AKC is going to hear about this, if only because so very many people are talking (and writing) about it.........the judge is sure to get a letter from AKC about it, asking why the dog was not disqualified....... Peggy ----- Original Message ----- From: <foxhavengs@xxxxxxx> > its an AKC rule. Any dog that attempts to bite the judge or another dog or a handler in the ring must be disqualified. Any exhibitor at any show may report this to AKC and I have done so in the past. My own personal rule is if a judge fails to do this they never get a nomination or an entry from us. > Denise Fox ============================================================================ POST is Copyrighted 2011.
