If he can still chew try first just giving him a large fresh (not bone/skinless) chicken breast and see what happens . You might make some slashes in the meat to make it more appealing. Commercial chicken has been so sanitized , for human consumption, that I doubt the bird smells very enticing to them at first , until they learn what it is of course . The breast will have softer bones and cartilage .The skin adds needed extra calories. Dogs and cats LOVE pork , we feed pork shoulder , when I find it on sale. If he does not want to chew .............. you can get 1# tubes of ground chicken or turkey at the grocers frozen section for about a dollar. This should give you something to start with. Liver is good in smaller amounts until they get used to it. Organs are liable to loosen them up if fed too much at first. We get fresh whole beef liver from the butcher and our dogs get approx. one pound chunk once or twice a week. plus whole pigs feet (for recreation and teeth cleaning), beef tongue , pork shoulder roast, Whole meaty pork neck bones, whole large Tilapia fish and of course chicken leg quarters . Do not add any type of plant matter , grains or veggies , as they cannot digest it and he needs to not waste any of his system's energy trying to. One last hint , I keep cans of Jack Mackerel in the pantry for times I may forget to thaw the dog's dinner. Alto cooked anything is better than the alternative. You could give that a try , if you don't mash it up he will probably lap up the broth first which could possibly get him interested in eating more. Good Luck , ~Shirley Bpaul98@xxxxxxx wrote: Does anyone know the recipe for super chicken. I had it years ago and gave it to my bitches after whelping. I can't remember how I cooked the chicken (if indeed I cooked it) I remember putting everything in a blender with garlic powder and maybe an egg. Was liver involved too? I know the bones where included . I want to see if I can get Chantz to eat some of this. He is acting happy and I've been able to get some small amt's. of food in him but something is interfering and he's having a hard time eating again. So I figured I'd try a mash of some sorts and I know the super chicken was a great source of vitamins and protein .Any help would be appreciated. He's not ready for the bridge just yet - he's still ruling the roost and sleeping on the bed - so I want him to have the energy to hang around until he says otherwise. Thanks for the help we're hanging in and taking it day by day :) Barb --------------------------------- AOL now offers free email to everyone. Find out more about what's free from AOL at AOL.com.
