As a 4H instructor years ago in Texas, I watched a little girl on a quarter
horse gelding, smart old bird,
every single time she'd bring him into the ring under saddle, he'd limp.
(This was a very little girl)
Of course the judge would excuse him because of lameness, and once out of
the ring, he'd never miss a step.
Finally out of exasperation, we put an adult with a bit more leg power and
perserverance on the horse, and made the point that
"yes, you WILL be required to go around more than one time." Once the ring
smart horse figured out he couldn't get away with the act, he never
limped in the ring again....smart ole boy he was. lol
