It two separate things; from the AKC's on line "store", you can check ANY
dog's progression of points and titles. You can also research a pedigree,
research progeny and/or dogs defeated report. You need to create a password
to
do this. Some stuff is free, for other things, like a show record or a
pedigree, there is a small fee. You don't need to own or have bred the
particular
dogs.

The newer service (and you can use the same username and password), lets an
owner put in dogs they own and/or a breeder input entire litters and they can
pull up owners, track the dogs, etc. Owners can start their own database.
For dogs you own, IF you want to do on line record keeping, you will need to
enter the certificate date on the front of the AKC registration slip for the
dam (or a particular dog) to do this. In other words, without a copy of the
dam's registration slip, (or in the case of a particular dog, when starting
say stud dog records, the number on HIS registration slip), you COULDN'T log
in and see who I sold a puppy to or who I bred a dog to.

There is a "dog of interest" category, but information available is limited
to the items mentioned above in the first paragraph, same as the old "on line
store".

The online records, if kept up to date, can take the place of the paper
records we now keep.

Think of how neat this is if you co-own dogs that don't live with you,
especially a stud dog. Enter the date on the front of his registration # and
POOF! your breeding records are now up to date (as long as the litters are
registered.)

BTW and totally different, did you know you can go to the web site and check
the status of a lease, a registration etc?

It's not a big deal, big brother isn't coming. Use it or don't use it, but
gosh, before everyone gets all hysterical, why not go to the web site, take a
minute and get familiar? Oh, I know, much more fun to be hysterical, lol.
