At my age, I've served on lots of boards and committees - far too 
many!
It is not common to "discuss" nominees to my knowledge. To do so, and 
eliminate any because they are not to the liking of the nominating 
committee is tantamount to the election being held then and there by 
the committee. I am more familiar with a system in which the committee 
simply decides on the qualifications of the candidate and if they 
match the requirements. That's all. The exception to this is when a 
committee is charged with bringing a slate to the table of one 
candidate for each office.

That's my take on that outside of our club, at least.
