If you look at it from either side, the elbow should be opened so
that it is in front of, or under, the point of shoulder, not under the chest.
In fact,a picture showing the "off" leg may show correct shoulder opening
even better because you can see that the elbow is indeed in front of the
point of shoulder. There should be an almost straight line from the shoulder
blade through the upper arm and the foreleg, causing the elbow to almost
disappear. Also,no matter the time frame, the feet should remain close to
the ground. This allows no excuse for lift regardless of the moment the picture
is snapped because there should never be any lift.during any sequence.

Here's something I don't understand. Maybe someone can explain it to me.

I have always photographed a dog in motion with the side of the dog nearest
the camera fully extended so it shows the shoulder opening.

So many of the pictures today show the side of the dog nearest to the camera
with the foreleg back, which I think distorts the view of the shoulder and
the rear quarter.

Timing is everything with dogs and just 1 frame (shot at 30 per second) can
make the difference between seeing the dog as he/she really is versus the
lifting (incorrectly) portrayed in the Review.

Doesn't the Standard specifically mention "close to the ground"?

Pam
