I liked t for its combination of honesty, completeness, emotion and decriptiveness. If e judges as well as he writes critiques he will be a credit to the judging lement and the breed. I look forward to seeing Jack in the center of the ring. e should all feel so lucky to feel the passion when seeing a beautiful specimen f the breed that Jack evokes. ill -- On Thu, 2/17/11, Jack Kilgour <jackkilgour@xxxxxxx> wrote: rom: Jack Kilgour <jackkilgour@xxxxxxx> ubject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] Critique - GSDC of Canada - Jack Kilgour o: "list" <showgsd-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> ate: Thursday, February 17, 2011, 12:27 AM GDC of Canada Regional Specialty - hosted by The GSDC of Quebec (2 dogs, 9 itches, 1 dog special, 4 bitch specials) igaud, Quebec - August 1st, 2010 - Judge Jack Kilgour st Open Male, Winner Male - Toskia Jay Star (Ch. Kaleef's Joshua V Kenlyn x Ch. anlousvir's Mirka) he first impression of this large, black and light tan dog is one of oderation, balance and good proportions. He reacted adequately to my loose lead emperament approach. He stood his ground but the look in his eye lacked some onfidence. His head is nicely conformed (eyes, ears, skull and length of uzzle). He needs more depth of under jaw. For a dog his size his overall bone hould be better. He stands straight in the forelegs and hocks when viewed from ront or rear. his dog has a muscular, long neck and a high wither sloping into a level back. is croup is short. His forequarter angulation is sufficient, only slightly traight in both shoulder blade and upper arm. His rear angulation is moderate. e is clean coming and going. His gait is fluid, with adequate reach and drive. e tends to kick up in the rear on his follow through. 2nd Open Male, Reserve Winners Male - Radisson's Caruso (Ch. Riverstone's omplete Chaos x Radisson's Wonderful) his medium-sized, black and red male could quite coincidently be described a completely chaotic and wonderful", with the former ultimately sealing his fate n my ring on this day. He reacted well on his temperament test. His skull and uzzle are nicely conformed, his eye is round, his ears somewhat soft and his nder jaw lacks the required depth. He has an awesome shoulder layback with deal blade/upper arm angles. He stands close and east-west in front, his asterns are weak and feet are flat. He has a strong back and his ribbing is oth long and well sprung. He has a lovely underline. His croup is long and it lopes well. He is extremely angled in hindquarter - a shade too long in lower high. He is cow-hocked and ligaments are loose. He is close coming at me and ot clean going away. His extreme angles say he is built to take a big stride nd he does his best.but can not pull it off because of his weak hindquarters nd poor overall ligamentation. 1st Open Female, Winners Female, Best of Winners - Stonewall's Lookaliker Karizma's Nicaragua x Stonewall's She's Got The Look) his feminine, medium-sized sable bitch impressed me from the moment she ffortlessly gaited into my ring. She had an ideal, typical German Shepherd Dog eaction on my temperament exam. Her height/length proportions are good. She has beautiful head, strong ear and nice eyes. She appeared a little out of coat. he has a strong back. Her croup is a shade steep. Her front legs are straight nd her feet and pasterns strong. he is deep-bodied with a beautiful, long ribcage and short, well-muscled loin. er upper arm is long and well angled - her shoulder blade is a little straight. er hindquarter angulation is good. She comes at me correctly. She goes away too losely and stands a shade cow-hocked. When gaiting on a taut lead the outline rom the side is impressive. good topline with a very nice reach and drive. On a oose lead she tended to drop just a smidge in the shoulder. 1st 12-18 Month Female, Reserve Winners Bitch - Harmonia's Gypsy Black Rhythm Woodside's High Voltage x Camareigh's Gemini of Shebland) hen this curvy, ELEGANT, solid-black, feminine and NOBLE bitch came in my ring tried to maintain a "poker face." It wasn't easy. She looks like GVX ettuccini with a black dress on. She reacted perfectly on her temperament exam. er head is STRONG, without any tendency to the doggy. She has a beautifully- haped skull, long, strong ears, perfect length of muzzle and depth of under aw. Her eyes emote that "look of eagles" or "nobility" we so rarely see. Her eck is strong, long, well-arched and muscled. Her withers are high, her back is trong and her croup is long and perfectly sloped. She is a medium-large bitch. er height-to-length proportions are ideal - although I'd like her a little horter at the withers and in the loin. She is substantial with beautiful, oval one. She needs to drop a smidge in chest, but she is typical for this age. very time she stopped her front legs/feet were straight as were her hocks. Her ocks are a bit long. Her fore assembly is perfectly angled and well laid back. Her rear angulation is in total balance with the ore. This bitch absolutely "did me in" standing but is at her best when in otion. Coming and going she is clean. From the side, on a tight or loose lead, he stays "framed up." Her gait is powerful, efficient, suspended, effortless nd out-reaching and she keeps her feet low to the ground. Judging Winners Bitch efore my five class winning bitches took a lap, I put the 12-18 month bitch in ront and the Open bitch in second. The same handler won with both and stayed on he Open Bitch. The black bitch pulled, scrambled and raced like a roadrunner on peed the whole time around the ring. Long, sad story made short - I gave the andler a few chances to slow her down, I re-tested her temperament - she eacted perfectly to me again - so I can only assume she did not "appreciate" omeone new running behind her. Not quite so perfect after all. put the beautiful sable back out front and she won the points easily. The riginal handler came back in on the 12-18 month bitch for reserve. She returned o her comfort zone and she gaited at an easy trot without putting a foot down rong.. <sigh>. Best of Breed - Ch. Shebland's Grayson Camareigh (Almar's Nubian Prince x Ch. rownhill-Kysarah's New Quest) his is one of the most CORRECT German Shepherd Dogs I have seen in a long, long ime. He gaited into my ring and within 3 or 4 strides he lowered his head and as reaching and driving ON A LOOSE LEAD covering the maximum ground with inimum amount of steps. He did so EFFORTLESSLY. This dog saw me approach him nd confidently stood his ground on a loose lead. He is a medium-sized, black nd tan with a noble expression and masculine head. He has strong ears, lmond-shaped eyes, and a nice length and depth of under jaw. He has a little oo much stop for my liking. He is high-withered, with a natural sloping opline. His ribbing is ideal and his loin short and well-muscled. His roportions are to standard and his depth of body is sufficient. Every time the og stops he plants them straight, fore and rear. His pasterns are well-angled nd his foot is well-padded and tight. His is correctly angled in forequarters nd hindquarters. He is a smidge short in croup. He is perfect comin and going and from the side, he reaches and drives without effort. Too often e forget about our breed's unique characteristic of total suspension. We know ow the standard describes it - this dog is a great example of how it actually ooks. Best Opposite Sex - Ch. Stonewall's Dirty Look (Karizma's Nicaragua x tonewall's She's Got The Look) f you haven't seen this bitch move before, I would suggest contacting her wners to see if there's a video of her in motion out there. She is the epitome f our standard's description of the ideal hindquarter. Her powerful under-reach nd the clean, long stroke of her follow-through are hard to beat. She is a eminine, medium-sized, solid-black bitch shown in muscular condition with an deal coat. She reacted well when I tested her temperament. Her head is too efined for my liking, lacking width of skull and muzzle. Her ears are strong nd her eyes are dark. She has a long, elegant neck, her withers are high her uscular back is firm and level. Her height-length proportions are ideal. Her epth of chest, spring and length of rib and her underline are correct. She is ine-boned and overall lacking substance. his bitch has an ideal forequarter to match that incredible hindquarter. Her orelegs are straight, pasterns are correct and her hocks are both straight and hort. I was a little disappointed in her reaction to my hands on examination. he displayed an uncomfortable look when I approached her "on the stack" and she eaned her body (accordion-style) into her handler's knee when I went over her ody and tail. I re-tested her on a loose lead and she confidently stood and let e touch her. General Observations entition was good, although some exhibitors need to be reminded to clean their og's teeth. One exhibitor should remember good sportsmanship is a big part of hy we enjoy ourselves at a dog show. f I were handing out "Excellent" ratings on this day, my Best of Breed dog, est Opposite Sex bitch, Best of Winners bitch, Reserve Winners bitch and a pecials bitch (who made the final cut) would all be recipients. This list lready heard about the great hospitality and tenacity of this small, ost-club.congratulations again, and merci beaucoup!
