Faithfully Yours, RIN TIN TIN, www.RinTinTin.com I would be happy to assist with any project that could help collect data for a book of GSD stories from the leaders of the breed over the years. I cannot do the video, but I can help with typesetting and the like. daphne <<<Msg: #6 in digest From: ELG440@xxxxxxx Date: Wed, 28 Dec 2011 12:20:05 -0500 (EST) Subject: Your history is my life In a message dated 12/28/11 9:11:19 AM Pacific Standard Time, ELG440@xxxxxxx writes: We have to listen to those like Helen who can tell these stories. I remember talking to Bob Penny and he told me about handling dogs and competeing with VonStephanitz' daughter. After I sent my post, I remember that Helen and Ann were two of the top people I wanted to talk to, and include. We do need to do something while we can. Hang in there Helen, someone younger than me should be able to do the project. Bob had the full video of the German Sieger gaiting that we have all seen small parts of. He knew the back story. He talked about Lee Duncan and people's reactions to Rin Tin Tin. He talked about great dogs he had met both here and in Germany. He talked about temperament and trainability. We flew him up several times for our temperament tests and the dinners were always delightful. Ann always had us all laughing so hard it would bring in all the employees working the restaurant to see what was going on. She could tell stories like no other. Theis would sit by quietly with a tiny smile and sometimes just shake his head as Ann got a full head of steam going. How good it would have been to have them and the others on film. Apparently Ann helped him picking out certain dogs to train for Movies. . Of Course I had met Ann,because we'd had a Board meeting out there in Seattle and Ann and Theis had hosted the Board, and then I had also judged the National there, and stayed at Ann's We have to listen to those like Helen who can tell these stories. I remember talking to Bob Penny and he told me about handling dogs and competeing with VonStephanitz' daughter. It is a young breed and some of the more mature members, (I don't want to mention names by I do get to talk to Tom and Vivian at class each Saturday), can share some interesting stories with us. Thankfully we have interviews and articles. A few years ago I was going to go video tape some of the interesting people in our breed. I wanted to do Cappy and Gloria, Ernie Loeb, Dave Rinke, Bob Penny, Jerry Guzman, Joan and Fran Ford, Joan Fox, and so many more. I was going to do it at my own expense. Then the Parent Club decided to take over the project and they assigned someone to do it and were going to pay for it, and that person was to make up his own list. He had his own ideas of who to include, and so I backed off. I had no interest in getting involved in the conflict. Nothing ever happened, and I have lost interest. When Bob Penny, Ernie and Joan died, I realized that it should have been done. But, then I felt I no longer wanted to take it on. Maybe someone else could do it now. Just two video cameras, and some one just talking would be great. I wanted to take some weekend trips, and also do some work at the national. My idea was just a conversation about the past, and maybe edit it to 20 minutes would do it. We still have some of the pioneers of our breed alive.
