If you look at a broader picture though the GSD's have changed from the 50's
and 60's
and with it came more health issues, temperament and conformation faults.

I know there are still very good dogs out there but I see far more showing and
placing that shouldn't. When I go though the old reviews I see dogs without the
longer down pasterns front with their back cannons down on the ground but I do
see some with the same longer narrow faces with closer set eyes as the these
dogs of today. I think it is what a person gets use to seeing and they just
accept it.  These GSD's place due to the fact the good dogs are not there.
However, they still receive the 1st placing and the on lookers wonder why.  You
can not keep a person from showing these dogs walking on their pasterns and
down in their hindquarters but these are the GSD's the public are seeing due to
the good dogs not being there.  The speciality shows are different but a
smaller AKC shows have these dogs.

One would certainly hope so.  Our goal is "betterment". The dogs have become
better and better because the judges are looking for better, not different.
In the 50s and 60s, a really fine dog stood out in the show ring; today there
are so many good ones, the poorer ones stand out.

Re: Swim in the pool you have

the standard may not have changed, but one would have to be blind not to see
that the look of the American conformation dog has changed since the 50s and
60s....and that is not necessarily a bad thing....Ed
