In my heart the best black dog was my Sel. Ch. Steigerhaus Bo Jackson son, but
I
know he wasn't. I would have to say "Bo Jackson",  followed by Sel. Ch.
Riverdell's Black Ice. These 3 dogs stole my heart. Even though my "Storm" was
not a champion of record, he was a champion in my heart and to all that knew
him. I will never forget the applause he received at the 2 nationals he was
shown as a Veteran. He loved everyone he met and was a great ambassador of the
breed along with Bo & Tristan.

I agree that it takes a lot of studying to make a responsible breeding
decision.  I think there are many breeders who don't know the dogs in their own
American pedigrees very well.  Sometimes the information one needs is difficult
to acquire.

Truer words were never spoken, Mike.  Part of the problem with using  the
German dogs is not the dogs themselves - it's that there are very few people
in this country who really know the European pedigrees well enough and far
back enough to make an educated breeding decision.  I've run into quite a
few folks who think they have the knowledge but less than a handful who
truly  do.

Your job  as a breeder is to understand your bitches pedigree in great

To do this you  must understand both her and the studs pedigrees in depth(a
minimum of five  generations, and their litter mates if possible) .

Suzanne,
I may be from the old school on this one! What kind of a indicator of
temperament is the CGC or the TC when dogs have to be "prepared" before they
take it? That just blows my mind (what little I have left!) My dogs pass
the test COLD TURKEY, period. That is like giving all the test answers to
the kids before they take the test! Sure they can pass it that way. It is
sure no indicator of the dogs NATURAL temperament. Mo

public start training, learning obedience, working with trainers and
groups. This is a good thing. Many people would not pass a CGC, not
because their dog in dangerous or vicious, but because they never
learned the rudiments of obedience training. I know that my dogs
would pass a CGC without further training, as would most of your dogs,
but for many, this is a new experience for them. To actually have
their dog walk quietly on lead, do simple obedience... they just have
never done it.

Many, I imagine, go on to more training.

We've talked about every color except the most common--black and tan.
From what I know of him, I liked the "YO" dog--CH Pinebeach's Stars
and Stripes. I also liked Andretti, Polo, Jed, Vance, and Scoop. But
my favorite black and tan male is Rolf (GV Honky Tonk Man) and my
favorite black and tan bitch has always been the lovely CH Amber's
Flair.

This was left off.....

I know we have several CGC trainers on this list, so I'm sure they
will post. But if clubs offer CGC training classes, it does help the

I bought two half sisters this year from a German Breeder living in
Atlanta!...she was born in Germany and travels back and forth many times a
year, she has the sister to Danny V Wilhendorf....the price for one of those
pups is way out of my budget...spent too much money already on bad dogs from
AKC show breeders...and I am not faulting the sellers, the dogs just didn't
turn out....I plan to travel to Germany and the Czech Republic next
year...unless I change my mind and don't retire from school.....Ed

Morton Goldfarb has a super import - who we bred to.
He is SchH 3 and an American CH.

Suzanne Kinman has another nice import boy who I intend to breed to in the
future.
He is a SchH 3 and an International CH and has his CHIC - before they made
it lower requirements.

They can both tell you more about their dogs.

Instead of buying one, unproven  and sight unseen, have you considered
breeding
to Helen Gleason's  Navigator?  Or his grandsire, Nurmi?  I don't know what
you
are  looking for, but, both of these dogs are exceptional German dogs,
IMHO.
