Assuming there is but the one printing of the article in "The Guardian",
which is a British publication , I have to question whether or not the
author's views were not intentionally sought out, to play off of the past
"Crufts" issues.
There is nothing in her diatribe which would indicate more than a
regurgitation of that spewed by anti-dog/cat breeder organizations, as
those organizations play off the emotions of the ill advised in no small
part for financial gain.
There is nothing in her article or her background as a "trainer" but not
competitor that would indicate she has any knowledge of breeding,
structure, function or understanding of health considerations as part of a
breeding program. No this article is nothing more than her opinion, an
opinion without substance or fact but rather innuendo and allegations...all
of which can to some degree be supported more by the exception than the rule

I don't agree we need a response.
There have been individuals who for years have blasted the German
shepherd, including those who claim the American German shepherd is a
terrible
animal, dangerous, crippled and of no value.
There are articles such as the most recent one, saying even more untruths
about this breed.
There are countries, such as England who claim the German shepherd is an
abomination and should not be allowed in dog shows.
There are agencies like PETA who continue to say how terrible the breeders
are, how we who breed dogs cause packs of German shepherds to roam the
streets and eat children.
What is the result of all this?
1, We are the second most popular breed in America.
2. A German shepherd just went Best In Show at Westminster.
3. We have buyers asking when we will have puppies available.
4. Most people you talk to have a story of their GSD as a youth, or the
one they just lost, or the one they want to buy.
5. The GSDs still lead the blind, are companion dogs, are service dogs,
and the military wants to find more to serve.
6. Each year at our National Specialty we see examples of the most
fantastic German shepherds of the dogs and how they have improved from
the
German shepherds of the past.
We are doing something right. Let's keep doing it, and never let those who
are ignorant to what the breed has accomplished suck us into thinking they
matter.
